We recently invited pupils from Witton Gilbert Primary School to our Beauford Park development in Witton Gilbert, where they enjoyed a first-hand look at how the new homes in their community are being built.
Over two action-packed days, the Year 1 and Year 5 pupils put on their hi-vis jackets and headed over to the site – which is just 100 yards from their classrooms – to see the work unfold with their very eyes.
Led by our Head of Construction, Dan Holyoak, our team were excited to share their knowledge of and passion for the housebuilding industry, offering a brick-by-brick walkthrough of how our award-winning homes are built.
The pupils were taught about all the different build stages of a house and were able to venture inside The Dorchester at plot 28 to see a plot at 2nd fix – before the finer details that make a house a home have been added.
The highlight for many of the children however was the digger and fork-lift truck demonstrations by the site team.
At the end of their visit, the Year 5's were given a special task – to go away and design a new front cover for our new homeowner welcome cards. The designer of the winning cover will receive an exciting prize, and their design will be proudly handed out to our future Beauford Park residents.
We truly value opportunities such as these to engage with the local communities we're building in and to help inspire the next generation to consider a future in construction and housebuilding. Experiences like these play an important role in raising awareness of STEM-related careers, showing young people how science, technology, engineering and maths connect to real-world projects.
