At Homes by Carlton, we are passionate about supporting the next generation of skilled tradespeople and helping students connect classroom learning with real-world experience. That’s why we were delighted to welcome plumbing students from Bishop Auckland College to our Woodberry Park development in Staindrop for an educational site visit.
The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to step onto a live construction site and see first-hand how new homes are built from the ground up.
Guided by our site team, the students were introduced to the day-to-day operations involved in delivering a modern housing development, while gaining insight into the many specialist trades and processes required along the way.

Before touring the site, students took part in a professional site induction, learning about the importance of health and safety procedures, PPE compliance and the responsibilities involved in working safely within the construction industry. These are essential standards that underpin every project we deliver and form a crucial part of preparing students for future careers in construction.
Throughout the visit, students were able to observe various stages of the build process, from early substructure works through to final second fix services. This gave them the chance to see how plumbing systems are integrated into modern homes and how different trades coordinate closely to keep projects progressing efficiently.
As an industry, construction relies on skilled, knowledgeable and motivated young people entering the workforce. We are proud to play a small part in supporting that journey by opening our developments to local colleges and training providers.
